This episode is essentially a continuation of episode 3 (I suggest you skim through if you haven’t), as I intend to give further amplification to the previous. One of the most important questions I have often asked several times, whether from mentors and superiors, the few persons in my niche or during meditation is this-‘What exactly is the path to Success?’ I find this question very relevant because I am an ardent believer and proclaimer of a life that is way (far) beyond average. It’s not a myth; the big stages are not for some selected few! Even if the beginning is a humble one, we would not remain where we started forever.
It’s not farfetched to find information, counsel or a sure path to follow flying all around (and I mean left right and centre). We can no longer watch a single YouTube video in peace without been gate crashed with ads on how to turn around our Fortunes in 6 months! Sometimes, some approaches and campaigns are so aggressive and emotionally compelling that you are not even sure what to believe or not. From delving into Forex, Stocks and Bonds to Data Analysis, Real Estate, Copywriting, the list is surely endless. Have you ever wondered what exactly you should be doing or put your mind around? I honestly have previously wandered, not anymore!
At other times, it could be sheer pressure about what your mates have been up to and how much they have achieved in a very short time; or you may have been an object of ridicule to people who have derived so much pleasure in saying very unpleasant things to and about you. This can even be from the very persons that you are supposed to listen to (in elders, parents, guardians, etc). While some of these persons speak from sincerely concerned standpoints, you must be careful to listen/pay attention to the things that are relevant to you (for there can be so much wisdom in counsel) and filter the rest (that’s of no benefit to you). At the end of the day, you are the winner or sore loser, the answer to you. You are YOU, no one else!
One interesting truth I found is that there isn’t any one PATH to success! You would not find any Holy Grail anywhere. The best you would ever find is your own path and you would have to stay there! Yes, that’s right! This is why not everyone is going to/can be a Doctor, Engineer or an Accountant, just to mention a few. To begin with, Success is very relative and it depends on careful contexts (however not within the scope of this particular discourse). In fact, one argument I often try to avoid is one that tries to compare attaining success over corporate jobs (also known as 9-5), a business, and freelance. This is because most times, people who often bring up these comparisons may tend towards being biased (sometimes unknowingly). Most times, they have their answers/standpoints already in their heart and probably just want a validation. You begin to hear things like ‘salary is the peanut you are given to forget your dreams’ (for the person who detests a 9-5) or no business is viable in the present day Recession/Risk prone economy (for those that detest business), just to further back up their stance.
My honest take is that we have millions of highly successful business persons, as well as a lot of failed businesses out there. Similarly, there are millions of much fulfilled people in Career (and I mean very successful) as well as several unmotivated people who have struggled at their jobs in 15-20 years of their lives. There are also those who have successfully combined being many things and found a balance. What do you think? Those who beat the odds managed to do the following things:
